The Seven Hundred Dollar Piece of Paper

October 4, 2011 16:55 by Donna

So, over the weekend, Leah had a bout of burping....and suddenly she started feeling a bit better. She stopped making the strange retching noise, she stopped waking me up at night, she stopped drooling, and the groaning decreased somewhat (although not entirely).

Upon speaking with her vet last night, we have both agreed that (1) It probably was Leah's stomach bothering her, and not her arthritis, so she does not need to continue taking Deramaxx. (2) The granules in her belly might very well be sand, (thanks to the feral cat colony next door), which she should pass on her own (3) Her distended stomach was most likely caused by gas (4) She appears to be on the mend (5) We can hold off on further testing

If the groaning isn't entirely gone in two weeks, then she'll do another x-ray to see if anything has changed - but for now, it appears my sweet senior should be just fine...and we spent $700.00 on gas.

SurprisedConsequently, the vet gave me the Spay Certificate I requested - so I guess not all the money was wasted. At nearly twelve years old, Leah is officially spayed. Not only will we save some money on licensing fees, we may even get to compete in a Rally trial or three down the road...

Sorry, but this post totally cracked me up!  I guess the good (and bad, smelly news) is that it was just gas Smile

Glad you got a kick out of this one, Amanda. Maybe I should have titled it "The Seven Hundred Dollar Laugh?!"

I'm a little confused, can't you compete in rally with an intact dog?

PS: Glad that she's okay. Smile

In the past the AKC allowed purebred dogs only to compete in AKC events. Purebred dogs with AKC papers were allowed to compete intact, but if you had a purebred rescue w/out papers, they needed to be fixed. (Can't have those no names propagating.)

More recently, AKC began a program where mutts can compete as well, but they also need to be fixed. Yes, it's prejudicial, but I totally agree with spay/neuter for a family pet anyway.

The APDT allows any dog to compete, fixed or not, although they do charge more to register intact dogs.

Money well spent if it brought you peace of mind. Smile  I would do the same for one of mine. Wink

$700 on gas ... sounds like you just took a Humvee for a fill-er-up.  Wink  Glad Leah is on the mend!

Yup Leah's doing well, Dennis, although she wishes we spent the 700.00 on doggie treats instead....

Glad she is doing well. $700 is high, but at least you need not worry about her.
