So I Saw this Sign at My Vet's Office Today...

July 15, 2011 19:11 by Donna

As most of you are aware, we are at our limit here, both financially and in regards to room. 650 square feet...three dogs...two cats...and two humans - means we can't fit much else. There are times when I see a dog I'd like to help, but have to stop myself, knowing that it is just not feasable right now.

This is one of those times.

Meet Walt.

He is listed as a Labrador Mix, but no matter what this poor guy is, he really just needs a break. According to the flier from my vet's office, Walt is about five years old and was dumped at the shelter over a year ago. He recently tested positive for both Lyme Disease and Heartworm, and is not doing well at the shelter. He is stressed, and they are having difficulty restraining him because of it - which is a major problem since he will need to be kept still in order to undergo treatment for heartworm.

The bottom line is this poor guy needs to be in a home environment in order to have the best chance at surviving the treatment.

The shelter is looking for a dog savvy foster home or permanent home for Walt. The flier states: Brookhaven Animal Shelter will assume complete financial responsibility for all medical, food & supplies.

Is there anyone out there that can open their home and their heart to this poor soul? Please pass this along to any and all dog loving friends....and if you or anyone you know can help Walt, please call 631-286-5598.

Please take a moment to watch this video about Walt.

Walt is so cute! He looks like our uncle's dog Judah sort of, only  a little bigger. We hope he finds a home and gets better from his heartworm and lyme disease... poor doggie!

650 square feet with three dogs and two cats... Maybe I have room for a second dog after all!

Walt sounds like a special guy. What a sweet face he has. I hope he gets the help he needs. Special needs dogs are tough to adopt out, but I have no doubt as soon as someone gives him a chance he will blossom.

I'm even hoping someone will just open their hearts (and homes) enough to foster the poor guy until his treatment is done.

Yeah - 650 is tight - but we aren't really 'stuff' people - so that helps a bit. (Plus, we hung the TV on the wall so we could put a crate under it.) Smile

Hopefully with additional attention someone will come forward. He is fortunate to have people paying attention.
