On a Lighter Note...

September 29, 2011 18:58 by Donna

...it must have been so very quiet in the forest, because even the smallest comment directed Meadow's way starts her tail a-knockin'. She absolutely adores being spoken to.

I'll be sitting staring at my laptop, (I do that a lot), and I'll notice she's sitting and staring at me.

"What's up, Meadow?"

Still sitting, she scootches closer.

"Are you looking for attention?"

She stretches her head towards me, practically nodding.

I give her a quick scratch, and go back to what I was doing.

A moment later, she peeks around the side of my computer screen.

"I'm sorry, I'm busy writing." (Or reading about illnesses on the internet.) Either way, I ignore her. And lest you think I'm being mean, I don't ignore her every time. It's just that, if it were up to Meadow, every ounce of my attention would be reserved for her.

She shifts position and peeks around the other side.

I laugh, and continue to ignore her.

But Meadow WON'T be ignored. She will go from one side to the other, peering at me with those soulful eyes, again and again, until finally, I give in.

"Can I help you with something?"

And then her tail starts thumping and the corners of her mouth turn upward in a big, wide grin - which of course, gets me to speak to her more.

"What's up smiley?" I ask. "Do you want my attention or something?"

At this, Meadow races off, returns a moment later with a toy in her mouth, and resumes staring at me.

"Do you have the toy?"

I pronounce the word "toy" like tawwww-eeeeee, and she literally dances in front of me, delighted.

"You do?"

More dancing, her feet tapping on tile.

"Well, can I see the toy?"

She steps closer, waves it in front of me, and I reach for it....

Psych! She steps away.

"C'mon Meadow, lemme see that toy."

I reach, she ducks, I reach, she swerves - all the while grinning with glee. (And no, all you Cesar Millan fans, she's NOT being dominant - she's playing!)

I ask again, "Let me see that toy."

Finally, she holds it out to me, releases it softly.

"Thank you so much!" I hold it up and inspect it as if it were a precious gem. "What a great toy," I tell her as I hand it back.

She wiggles away with her prize, thrilled with the results of the game. After all, she did win. She got me to look away from the laptop.

Hope you all enjoyed my attempt at cheering myself up. (And Meadow's). For those who're wondering about Leah, her blood results came back fine, but we won't have the results of the ultrasound until sometime tomorrow. I'll post when I know more. Also, for those who might be curious about what ever happened with Jon Cooper's "Puppy and Dog Protection Rating System", the vote was postponed until mid-October. So with that too, I'll post when I know more. Thanks for reading!

How ironic that this is your post today.  My vizsla pebbles is sitting next to me in her bed as I finish up my work and as soon as I look away all I can hear is the tail thumping happily and she runs and grabs a toy all while trying to nudge me to pet her and pay attention.  A true vizsla!  Sounds just like meadow.

Tucker also must be the center of all attention.  He too, loves to bring a toy just for me to admire and tell him what a great toy it is.  Dennis on the other hand, enjoys a game of fetch or tug. I think it so wonderful that Meadow found her forever home with you.  What a lucky girl!

Thanks Kelly....
I have to say, we're the lucky ones. She's such a smart, special, and lovable little girl!! I'm so glad we added her to our family. Smile
