It's Been a LONG Two Weeks, But We Had Loads of Fun!!

August 22, 2011 00:15 by Donna

As I'm sure ALL of you know, Nick and I put our lives on hold over the past two weeks while we begged for votes for Meadow, who was one of fifty finalists in the FuzzyNation contest on Facebook. Why was this contest so important to us? The three dogs with the most votes won thousands of dollars to go to the rescue groups they were adopted from. What better way to thank the Vizsla Club of Central New England for bringing this special girl into our lives than by trying to win them some cash to help more homeless Vizslas?

Besides, we had a blast skimping on the house cleaning and yard work in order to concoct new ways of pandering for votes, especially Nick, who put a lot of effort into his comedic video campaign - reminding everyone to "Click that Button" every day.

We tried everything possible to solicit votes, including posting an ad on Craigslist, making You Tube Videos about the contest, blogging about the contest, emailing friends and family for votes, and creating a Facebook page just for Meadow. We also posted so many requests for votes on Facebook that the "Facebook Gestapo" banned Nick, Me, and Meadow from posting anything on walls - for an entire two weeks.

Sadly, because of this ban, we weren't able to type a simple "Thank You" to people who posted in favor of Meadow on the FuzzyNation wall, nor were we able to congratulate the winners. Luckily we were still allowed to "like" things, and were able to post on friends' walls and the walls of groups that we belonged to - so we were still able to continue our quest, only on a much smaller scale.

In order to help us try to obtain our goal, not only did our friends and family vote, but strangers who learned about the contest through Facebook voted and asked their friends to vote. A fellow rescued "runaway" Vizsla named Dennis took the time out of his Diary of Destruction in order to blog about the contest, and a member of the Vizsla Club of Central New England posted their own Craigslist ad. And don't forget Bob, from the Vizsla Club of Long Island, who sent out several email reminders to all of the club members, reminding them to vote. All of these wonderful people - and more - joined us in begging for votes, in a mass attempt to try and win some money to help other homeless Vizslas!

So Nick, Me, and Meadow would like to say Thank You So Much to each and every one of you!!

Because of all of you and your support, we ended up placing fifth with 1250 votes - not too bad considering we were competing against three legged dogs and pups who changed animal welfare laws in their states! And while the end result was not quite what we had hoped, the best part about the FuzzyNation contest was that ALL of the prize money went to some dog rescue organization or another, and inspirational stories about rescued dogs of all breeds were shared across Facebook for an entire two weeks.

What could be better than that?
