Go Take a Walk

January 15, 2012 09:00 by Donna

For today's Blog the Change for Animals post, I want to encourage you to go take walk - with a shelter dog.

That's it.

So simple, yet it helps in so many ways. You are helping to get a dog out of the boring, stressful confines of his or her cage for a little while. You are socializing that dog to new people. You are giving that dog some much needed exercise and attention. And while you're at it, you can practice leash manners, eye contact,  sits, taking treats easily, not jumping up, etc...any behavior that you think might improve that dog's chance of being adopted.

It's free.

It's easy.

And it's good for you too. Hey, what better way to keep your New Year's resolution to exercise more?

Contact your local shelter for more info - I'm sure they'd be happy to have you. Even if you go just once. But I'm betting, once you try it, you're going to want to keep going back, again and again and again...

Go out, get some fresh air, and take a shelter dog for a walk today.

What an wonderful way to be the change in the life of a shelter dog! I actually did that years ago and found my first forever sweet dog Morgan, back in 1993. Had her for 15 years. What a precious gift she was! Thank you for this post.

This is such an important way to help dogs - and, I'd like to add, the more people who volunteer for walking the dogs, the longer each can then stay out of his cage. No need to rush him back, in order to walk the next one, then. You're absolutely right, it's so enjoyable, you have to wonder who's benefiting more, the dog or the walker!

Thanks for making a difference, and blogging the change for animals!

Hypoallergenic Dog Food

Thanks for sharing this wonderful way to contribute to the wellbeing of our animal friends.  I built a similar site based on using hypoallergenic dog food to help with their food allergies.  Thank you for fighting for the cause for our animal brothers and sisters!

Shelter dogs are so nice!  They seem to get ostracised sometimes, or thought of differently.  They are just as loving as any dog who already has a home.  Give it a chance people!

Best Way To Lose Weight

I couldn't agree more. My dog JUMPS when i ask her if she wants to go for a walk. It's really amazing. Before we go out she's pretty relaxed and moves around like a mope. Then once we get outside she's full of energy. It's wonderful!
