A Canine Christmas Gathering

November 20, 2011 11:13 by Donna

Here is Toby's group Christmas Photo with doggie pals from his Nose Work class and Blue Ribbon Dog Training.

Worried about him running rampant throughout the Smithhaven Mall, I loosely tied his leash around the fence...but he didn't need it. Toby didn't budge from his spot during the entire photo shoot...behaving better than I, or his trainer, expected.

What the photo doesn't show, but you can sort of see in the ones below, is the picture from the dogs' point of view: Two people pointing cameras and seven owners with their hands in the air, repeating "Stay...Stay...Stay...Stay...Stay..."

In this last shot, Toby and his friend Bella look like they are exchanging words - but they actually get along quite well. It's funny how the camera can be deceiving!

The cute little guy on the right is Bella's brand new baby brother, Harrison. If I were ever to get a small dog, a Cavalier would certainly be a consideration....I've never met such sweet little dogs as these.

Speaking of sweet dogs, if you're wondering why Leah isn't in the photos even though she is also a Nose Work student, it isn't because she wasn't welcome. I just personally thought a mall full of strange dogs, people, children, and a big guy dressed like Santa wouldn't be the ideal scenario for my sometimes reactive girl, and decided it best that she sit this one out.

It looks like Toby is saying to Bella, so how much longer do you think this is going to go on?  I smell something really good out there.

I love that the dogs can go to the mall for picture taking!

You are probably right! Smile I'm sure it had SOMETHING to do with food. "Hey, what kind of treats is THAT dog over there getting?"

Yeah, they do the dog photos after the mall closes. It was funny, the janitors were all mingling in the area, probably praying they didn't have to clean up any doggie accidents.

Great photos! It looked like you all had a good time, despite the potential for major canine stress. I can't believe all the dogs stayed in one spot. That's the difference between nose-work and agility, I guess. Wink

And I wanted to congratulate you and Toby on passing your test! I wish something like that was offered here. It sounds like so much fun!

Luckily, most of the dogs knew each other, and the ones that wouldn't have done well(like Leah) stayed home. Smile

I wanted to take Nose Work for at least a year before someone finally offered it, but it is slowly gaining popularity. No where near like agility though!
